The opening of Fiji's international borders yesterday saw Fiji welcome its first international visitors, including Australian Minister for International Development and Pacific, Senator Zed Seselja.

With COVID-19 restrictions easing, the 97 international travellers will enter a three-day only quarantine.

From yesterday, incoming travel is restricted to diplomats, returning Fiji residents, permit holders and those approved by the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce.

Meanwhile, Australian Minister for International Development and Pacific Senator Zed Seselja says the economic impact of international border closures on Fiji has been severe, but Fiji’s future is bright, with the country welcoming back Australian tourists from 1 December 2021.

Seselja says Australian tourists will play a critical role in Fiji’s economic recovery from COVID-19, and he will meet with Fiji’s tourism operators to discuss this issue.

Seselja will also meet Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu, Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Faiyaz Koya and Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, and Sports Parveen Bala.

He will meet other stakeholders as well.
