Ministry for Health Head of Wellness Doctor Davina Nand has highlighted that between 2015 to 2020, the Ministry registered a total of 9,544 cases of cancer with 4,394 deaths.
Speaking at the Cancer Fundraiser Launch, Dr Nand says cancer is preventable with early detection and good nutrition.
She says the risk of cancer rises rapidly with age.
She adds alcohol consumption, tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and air pollution all contribute to cancer.
Fiji Cancer CEO Belinda Chan says they are very excited with the launch of this year's Bushells Fiji's Biggest Morning Tea campaign and are looking forward to working with various companies and NGOs that will be hosting their own events over a period of 4-months.
Chan says last year, the COVID-19 pandemic did not deter them from providing the support to their patients as they registered 385 cancer patients with breast cancer being the highest cases recorded.
She adds their focus this year is to purchase medical concentrators for Fiji Cancer Society registered cancer patients.
