The Fiji Cancer Society has registered 9 cases of cervical cancer this year compared to 17 cases diagnosed for the same period last year.

Of the 583 cancer patients the Society looks after, 42 have been diagnosed with cervical cancer since 2018.

The Society says cervical cancer is preventable and curable if detected early.

Spokesperson Grace Tuivakasiga is advising women to get a papsmear done every two years.

She says having a cervical cancer screening could save a life and is the best way to protect yourself from cervical cancer.

The Society has helped more than 1,104 cancer patients through their programs this year.
