842 youth groups around the country have re-registered their clubs with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports Roveroto Nayacalevu while signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
Nayacalevu says approximately 70% of these clubs fall within the provincial boundaries and their issues are cross-cutting that will need integrity and a collaborative approach to resolve these issues.
He says that he is optimistic that the partnership being formalised with the iTaukei Ministry will assist respective agencies in successfully reaching out to the youths and developing their communities.
He adds at the moment, they are dealing with millennials and new generations, so yesterday’s solutions are not necessarily today’s solutions.
The Acting Permanent Secretary and Acting CEO iTaukei Affairs Board Pita Tagicakirewa says if there is no involvement of youths, there won’t be a present and future for Fiji.
He says youths nowadays should be taught to live for the present, future and also to lead from the future.
Tagicakirewa adds youths in Fiji are important change agents for decision making at the village sub-committee level and their contribution is recognised in subsistence and commercial farming.
