An 81-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy have passed away in two separate accidents.
Police say the first accident occurred along the Kings Road near Nalawa yesterday, where a vehicle driven by a 77-year-old man hit the 10-year-old child from Burenitu Village in Ra.
They say the boy is alleged to have crossed in front of a parked bus when the incident occurred.
He was rushed to the Nanukuloa Health Centre but was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
In the second accident, an 81-year-old woman was hit by a taxi in Makoi yesterday afternoon.
Police say the suspect while reversing out of a driveway allegedly hit the victim who was rushed to the Valelevu Health Centre but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigations into both accidents continue.
They say in another serious accident case, a 19-year-old student while driving along Naulu Road in Nakasi allegedly failed to negotiate a bend and collided head on with a vehicle driven by a 46-year-old man.
The 19-year-old suspect and a 45-year-old woman were transferred to the CWM Hospital where they remain admitted.
Police are urging drivers and pedestrians to be alert and vigilant as they share equal responsibilities when it comes to road safety.
