The Ministries of Economy, Education, Health, Women, Commerce, Trade, Tourism, Transport, Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Youth and Sports together with the Fiji Police Force will now look into their policies, programs and budgets from a gender perspective to see what role they can play to help Fiji achieve gender equality goals by 2030.
This is after a Gender Transformative Institutional Capacity Development was launched today which is led by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation in close partnership with the Ministry of Economy.
New Zealand and Canada will be fully funding this project and providing expertise and technical support.
Minister for Women, Mereseini Vuniwaqa says 140 government officials from various ministries have been identified to carry out this exercise as they each have a role to play towards this cause.
Vuniwaqa says once they are done with this exercise, they will extend this to other ministries.
New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Jonathan Curr says they are delighted to be part of this worthy cause to enhance government policies to transform gender equality.
Curr says it is also very impressive to see Fijian children back in school after the devastation caused by TC Yasa.
