A 7-year-old boy is believed to have drowned in Nasivi, Vatukoula yesterday afternoon.
The boy who is from Suva was visiting relatives in Nasivi.
Police say he had accompanied his 11-year old cousin for a swim.
It is alleged he did not inform anyone.
The 11-year-old child sought assistance from relatives after the boy disappeared while swimming.
The 7-year-old boy was later found lying motionless near the river bank and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The drowning toll currently stands at 35 compared to 40 for the same period last year.
