People of Navua will now save on cremation costs of their loved ones as the $650,000 Raiwaqa Crematorium is expected to open in June this year.
The crematorium will replace the existing wood-furnace crematorium that has been operating for decades.
It will consist of a crematorium viewing hall and a prayer area.
Crematorium Committee Chairperson, Mangal Singh says they came up with the idea sometime back and with some assistance also coming from the government, their dream is coming true.
Singh says cremating those who had passed away had been a hassle as organising firewood is cumbersome for most.
He says another reason behind this is to reduce the impacts of climate change by using environmentally friendly methods.
The Chairperson says their users will have to pay a small fee for each cremation to cover operating and maintenance costs.
