A total of 633 out of 745 primary schools and 159 out of 181 secondary schools in Fiji now have functioning libraries.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted this while opening a new school library at Cautata District School in Tailevu, which has been equipped with educational resources valued at more than $8,000, including books, learning materials, shelves, tables, chairs, educational charts, toys and digital devices.

Radrodro says libraries play a crucial role in supporting students’ learning and development.

He says they help nurture curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love for learning while giving students access to knowledge and helping them build the skills needed for the future.

The Minister also launched the Library Services of Fiji website, which will provide wider access to digital learning resources.

These include books, journals, newspapers and online learning materials available in iTaukei, Hindi, Fiji Hindi, Rotuman and English, allowing students, teachers, researchers and the wider public to access multilingual educational content.

Radrodro acknowledged the work being carried out by the Library Services of Fiji to strengthen library services across the country.

He says the Ministry of Education remains committed to establishing libraries in all schools while strengthening both physical and digital learning resources to promote a strong culture of reading and learning nationwide.
