60 women in Keiyasi Village complete 1-week training on ending violence against women, girls and children

Women in Keiyasi Village in Nadroga will now have the tools to end all forms of violence against women, girls and children in their village after completing a one week training conducted by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre on Gender, Human Rights and Violence against Women.

Sixty women attended this training which will assist them in developing a cadre of community advocates to end all forms of violence.

The training started on Monday and was facilitated by the Counsellor Advocate of the Nadi Women's Crisis Centre Sereima Jesoni, Ba Crisis Centre Counsellor Advocate Vilomena Saukuru and FWCC Legal Officer Lavenia Raisua.

Village nurse, Laite Ravouvou who was one of the participants, says it was empowering to see the women learn about these issues and share their experiences.

Ravouvou adds there was a domestic violence case at the village and some of them intervened and after this training, she knows other women in the village will stand with her and intervene if there is another case.

The program is supported by New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
