Six coaches from Kadavu, Serua, Suva and Levuka with one coach attending online from New Zealand have successfully graduated from the first-ever International Weightlifting Federation International L2 Coaches Certification in the Pacific.
Weightlifting Fiji says the course focused on kinesiology, exercise prescription, faults and corrective measures, auxiliary lifts and exercises and training programs.
Other significant topics were weightlifting for children and adolescence particularly youth resistance training and coaching for female athletes.
They say the course was conducted by International Weightlifting Federation Coach Educator and Weightlifting Fiji President Della Shaw who is also accredited to lecture in IWF’s L1 & L2 coaching certifications.
Shaw has thanked the IWF and the Fiji National Sports Commission for their continued support in the development and establishment of clubs.
The newly certified coaches will begin to work with the Weightlifting Fiji National Development Officer to take the sport to the rural areas throughout the country.
