Minister for Economy, Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum says about 500 new jobs have already been created through the new hiring subsidy program which is called the Stronger Together Job Support Scheme.
While speaking at the Fiji Corrections Service Yellow Ribbon Employment Expo at ANZ Stadium today, Sayed-Khaiyum says they hope to make an announcement about this on Tuesday.
Under this scheme, the government will be paying the minimum wage of $2.68 for new recruits that businesses hire, while the employers will be paying the rest to make up for the respective sectorial minimum wage.
Employers will also pay the FNPF contribution and any other associated costs.
He has urged the businesses present at the expo to apply for the scheme if they are going to hire new people including those people from the Corrections Service.
Sayed-Khaiyum says they have received a lot of wonderful feedback from people about this scheme.
