A 5-year-old boy is alleged to have drowned while bathing in a river near Navakaka Village in Savusavu.
Police say the child was bathing with cousins when the alleged incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Attempts to revive him proved futile.
A post mortem will be conducted as investigations continue.
