There is good news for parents who had applied for the $200 per child Back to School Initiative as the government will be disbursing $32 million today.
This has been confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad in an interview with fijivillage News.
Professor Prasad says his first job as the minister was to look for money to help the people and that is why they allocated $50 million to provide support for pre school to Year 13 students.
He adds they have received 166,000 applications as of yesterday and from this, 162,000 already qualify.
Professor Prasad says they have opened the initiative for the guardians and extended the deadline for parents until Thursday.
Professor Prasad says they will continue the ten percent bus fare reduction and this is additional 7.5 million dollars to support the people until the next 6 months.
