27 Fijians will be joining the Australian labour-hire employer, Seeka in Victoria under the Pacific Labour Scheme.

Fourteen of these workers have left for Australia and will be part of the Agriculture industry for nine months while the remaining group will depart later.

The group will engage in fruit picking, pruning, packing, planting and general labour.

The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Parveen Bala says workers have been advised to set clear goals, stay focused and perform their best as this will open up new opportunities for other Fijians wishing to be part of the scheme in the near future.

Bala says given the current situation, Fijians are very fortunate to receive this opportunity to assist in their families’ livelihoods as well as improve living standards.

He stresses that the Ministry through the National Employment Centre is the only authorized recruitment agency to send Fijian workers for overseas employment opportunities under the Australia Pacific Labour Scheme and New Zealand Recognised Seasonal Employer Work Scheme.
