20 participants successfully complete Fire Scene Investigation Workshop

20 participants from various South Pacific Island countries including Fiji have successfully completed the Fire Scene Investigation Workshop facilitated by the Australian Federal Police.

Officers from Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu were handed their certificates by the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

Chew told the participants that they will return to their respective organisations, with an enhanced understanding of their forensic capabilities.

He says they all came in as forensic experts in fields of crime scene investigations, and now their knowledge of how to thoroughly investigate fire scenes has been heightened.

Chew adds they will look at a fire scene with a different lens, understanding the indicators, causes and origins of a fire.

He says he knows that ensuring that the integrity of the evidence by being thorough with the way samples are collected and packaged, transported and analyzed are critical processes of investigations have been covered extensively.
