A COVID-19 case has been detected in the Tokyo Paralympics village, just days before the Games are due to start.

Organisers say the person who tested positive for the virus is not an athlete and is not a resident of Japan.

BBC News reports organisers have already reported more than 70 COVID-19 cases linked to the Paralympics, mostly among contractors and staff.

The Games are due to begin in five days.

Around 4,400 athletes from approximately 160 teams are set to take part in the Paralympics.

Fiji will be represented by Iosefo Rakesa and Inosi Bulimairewa.

Rakesa will be competing in the shot put and javelin while Bulimairewa will compete in the javelin event.
