19 sewing students at the Makoi Vocational Centre who have completed their nine weeks training have received a sewing machine each from the Government to better their skills and earn a living to support their families.
A total of 37 women graduated with certificates in sewing, cooking and pastry.
Minister for Women Rosy Akbar says the demand for vocational training for women has increased since the pandemic and it's a great indicator that women are keen to be economically active. She says over 1,400 women have graduated from the centre since 2015.
Akbar adds this includes widows, single mothers and women with little or no education regardless of their race, religion and ethnicity.
The Minister for Women also says this recognizes and leverages a woman's crucial role as the trainer and a catalyst of a family by offering a plethora of skill-based vocational training geared at enlightening, educating and equipping women.
