Fiji collected around $1.8 billion in taxes from August 2024 to January 2025, $136.4 million higher than the forecast collection.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad says the total tax collection between August 2024 and January 2025 accounted for around 55 percent of total budgeted tax revenues for the fiscal year.
He says the economic momentum is reflected in the strong tax collections as the country has exceeded projections in the first six months of 2024-2025 financial year.
Professor Prasad says taxes are at the heart of national development and governance.
He says taxes fund public services — everything from education, healthcare, and social welfare to infrastructure such as roads, ports, and clean water systems.
The Minister adds they also support local government services, including law enforcement, fire departments, and public parks.
