188 electricity grid extension projects have been done by the Ministry of Infrastructure through Energy Fiji Limited from 2019 to date, providing electricity to around 3,600 households in all divisions in Fiji.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate while responding to SODELPA MP Mikaele Leawere's question on the current status of electricity supply to rural areas that are not connected to the grid.

Usamate says providing electricity to areas outside of the grid and in the rural areas remains a priority of government.

He says out of the 3,679 households, some of them may have been connected while others connections will be completed in this financial year.

He adds that the work has been done but they just need to be connected.

The Minister says 42 projects are still under construction where work is ongoing, costing a total of around $26.3 million that would benefit another 3,693 households.

He says 48 projects that will assist 2,417 customers will be done during this financial year Usamate adds $4.8 million has been allocated for the completion of house wiring for another 8,708 households.

The Minister says EFL has now put in place its implementation plan to complete these projects over the next 12 to 14 months.
