1800 Hindi textbooks donated by Indian High Commission

Over 1,800 Hindi textbooks for the new school year has been donated to the Education Ministry by the Indian High Commission.

These books are for Year 7 to 13 students.

The books were initially purchased by the Ministry from India every year.

While receiving the donation, Permanent Secretary for Education, Anjeela Jokhan says these textbooks will be distributed to all schools in Fiji depending on their requests.

Jokhan says parents should encourage students to study Hindi in their own time or in school to understand the accents of their tradition and culture.

Acting Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Sukanta Sahoo says it is encouraging to see that Fiji has kept the Hindi language alive.

Sahoo says the language not only maintains the culture and tradition but helps develop the personality of Hindus.

He says India is committed to supplying any book that is needed by the Ministry.
