A 17-year-old girl from Vatutavui Village near Tavua has passed away in an accident near her village last night.
It is alleged a vehicle driven by a man in his 20s had hit the victim while she was walking along the road.
The suspect was travelling with three others when he overtook another vehicle and lost control, causing it to veer off the road and allegedly hit the girl.
She was taken to the Tavua Hospital by a passing vehicle where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect is in custody.
