A total of 16 street kids, including a 7-month-old baby, have found shelter at Lautoka resident Makereta Mafili's home during the recent heavy rain event.
Mafili says she was heartbroken when she saw the children lying in a park, drenched and shivering during the downpour.
Without a second thought, she brought them all home, offering food, warmth and comfort.
She says, despite limited space and resources, leaving them out in the cold was simply not an option.
Mafili says they are someone’s children, too.
The children now consider Mafili’s home their safe haven, but they continue to need support, especially clothing and other basic essentials.
Mafili says she will look after these kids until they can support themselves.
