15,381 families in the Suva and Nausori lockdown areas were assisted through government’s food assistance program in the last four days which came to an end yesterday.

This is in addition to the 4,250 families that were assisted in the previous Suva and Nausori lockdown.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says they will continue assisting families who are in isolation facilities or cordoned off areas.

Gounder says they have so far distributed 2,500 food packs to around 500 families who are in isolation or cordoned off areas.

He adds these families are given food packs every two weeks until their isolation period is over.

Each food pack has eight items which includes one 4kg rice, 4kg flour, 1kg split peas, 500ml cooking oil, 4 tin fish, 100 grams of tea leaves, 2 packets of breakfast crackers and 300 grams packet of milk powder.

The cost of one pack was around $43.50.
