1,414 illicit drug cases recorded last year from January to November

1,414 illicit drug cases were recorded last year from January to November by the Fiji Police Force which included marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.

Police say the most common drug was marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says offenders were mostly young people from the ages of 18 to 35 years old, followed by 36 to 55 years old and over with juveniles.

ACP Driu says various types of drug offences included unlawful possession, cultivation, importation, exportation, transportation, unlawful administration, found in possession of controlled chemicals and equipment, and supply and use of illicit drugs.

He says the unlawful possession of illicit drugs was the most commonly registered drug offence, followed by unlawful cultivation and unlawful importation and exportation.

ACP Driu says last year from January to November, 1,368 people were offenders of drugs whereby 25 were juveniles.

He says from the 1,368 people who were offenders, 833 people were from the ages of 18 to 35 years, and 471 were between the ages of 35 to 36 years.

He further says that 39 people arrested were 56 years and above.

ACP Driu adds that they will continue to fight the eradication of drugs.
