11 community-based organisations in Tavua have received grants from the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, led by Minister Charan Jeath Singh, with a total allocation of $74,582.16 aimed at supporting vital grassroots development.

Singh says that the recipient organisations will utilise the grants effectively to enhance their communities and promote unity.

He says he trusts that they will use these grants well and contribute meaningfully towards promoting social cohesion within their communities.

The Minister highlights that the funding will empower community-based organisations to strengthen their operations and deliver services that benefit the wider public.

He says that several funded initiatives, including borehole construction, solar lighting, cemetery renovation, and temple projects, address essential needs that may have been overlooked in the past.

Singh says these are critical projects that directly improve the quality of life for the people and ensure that no community is left behind.

One of the recipient, the Nasivi community, received funding for a solar lighting project.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Anasa Harold, President of the GP Boys Club, acknowledged the positive impact the initiative will have.

Harold says limited lighting has posed significant challenges for residents, particularly at night.

He says it has been very difficult to move around after dark, and there have been incidents where people were robbed while returning home from work or going to nearby shops.

He adds that the solar project will significantly improve safety and mobility within the community.
