10 cases of serious sexual offences withdrawn last month

A total of 10 rape and sexual offence cases were withdrawn last month after discontinuances were filed due to inconsistent and insufficient evidence, false complaints, and inability to locate or contact the victims.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says there was one incident where a 22-year-old man, a 37-year-old man and a 54-year-old man were charged with the rape of a 6-year-old girl, however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

In another incident, a 26-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 36-year-old man were charged with the rape of a 20-year-old woman, however, this matter was discontinued due to insufficient evidence.

There were two separate incidents where a 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were charged with the rape of two 17-year-old girls, however, both the matters were discontinued after the victims admitted to making false complaints.

In another incident, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were charged with the rape of a 16- year-old girl, however, this matter was discontinued after the victim admitted to making a false complaint.
