A 1-year-9-month-old child of Vatudamudamu in Wainunu, Bua has passed away after allegedly sustaining 35% burns.
Police say that on the 9th of this month, the child was at home with a relative, and it is alleged that he pulled a cup of hot water that was on top of a table, whereby he sustained burns.
The child was taken to the Wainunu Health Centre and later transferred to the Labasa Hospital, where he was admitted until he passed away yesterday.
Police investigations continue.
The Force is reiterating their call to parents and guardians to keep a close watch on the movement of young children to avoid accidents and loss of life.
They are pleading with parents and guardians to be vigilant about their children’s movements as accidents can and will occur with the many safety hazards in and around their homes.
Police say babies and toddlers are inquisitive, and accidents can occur if steps are not taken to ensure their surroundings are safe from objects or things that can cause injury or loss of life.
