Sanzaar CEO Andy Marinos has dismissed reports emerging from the French press that Springboks are being wooed to replace Japan in an Eight Nations tournament in Europe in November-December, threatening their place in the planned Rugby Championship.

Six Nations vice-president Bernard Laporte claimed the Springboks are in “advanced talks” to replace Japan in that tournament which would involve two pools of four teams.

Laporte told Le Progress in France the Japanese will not come to Europe and are looking for a nation to replace them adding they are in advanced talks with South Africa.

However, Marinos told Stuff.Co.NZ that the report was simply “speculation".
