Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made a heartfelt appeal for compassion during a meeting with the Fijian diaspora in Santa Rosa, California as Fijians living in the US who have overstayed their visas but have otherwise abided by the law are fearful of deportation.

Speaking during a talanoa session, Rabuka acknowledged the sovereign rights of the United States while urging authorities to consider the human impact of deportations.

Rabuka also highlighted key national developments and the Coalition Government’s plans for the next two years.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Fijians overseas, recognising their contributions to Fiji’s economy through remittances.

Fijians present at the gathering raised concerns about immigration, investment opportunities, FNPF membership, banking and transfers, land development and consular services.

The Prime Minister thanked them for their candid discussions and assured them that their issues were heard.
