The Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua is urging the youth of Taveuni to “rise with the first light and make it count.”

While speaking to more than 400 students at the inaugural Rise Taveuni Campaign, organised by the Taveuni Empowerment of Women Support Group, Naivalurua shared his personal journey—from the son of a Taveuni farmer to senior civil servant, diplomat, and now government leader.

He encouraged students to stay focused on their education, careers, and personal goals, urging young people to avoid choices that could derail their future.

He says the people of Taveuni have represented Fiji nationally and globally in sports, public service, education, and business, and that the younger generation should draw inspiration from them.

The Taveuni Empowerment of Women Support Group, which organised this event with financial support from the Women’s Fund Fiji, is a collective of mothers and grandmothers addressing socio-economic issues affecting women, youth, and children on the island since 2014.
