 Lal calls for Tabuya’s removal

Opposition MP, Ketan Lal is today calling on the Prime Minister to take immediate and decisive action by removing the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya from her post after she made the call for the death penalty for people caught with large quantities of drugs.

Lal says Fiji deserves leadership that is compassionate, informed, and committed to justice.

He says the Minister’s actions and statements have proven that she is no longer fit to serve in this capacity, and the people of Fiji deserve better.

Lal says while he has previously condemned this reckless and regressive proposal, it is now clear that further action is necessary.

The Opposition MP says the Minister for Women has demonstrated a shocking disregard for human rights and justice—values that are fundamental to our democracy, and her call for the death penalty not only reflects a profound misunderstanding of effective crime prevention but also places Fiji at odds with global human rights standards.
