The Fiji Football Association is hoping to begin assisting players and officials who have been badly affected due to COVID-19 and TC Harold by the end of this week.

Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf says they are waiting for approval from Oceania Football Confederation for grants to be made available to them before they can give out food items and building materials to affected players and officials.

He says they have applied for $50,000 assistance but the OFC will decide on how much can be allocated to Fiji.

Fiji FA had earlier stated that they received 400 applications for assistance from players and officials during their COVID-19 and Tropical Cyclone Harold Survey.

Yusuf says players who were only dependent on football as a source of income have been the most affected as there are no games being played.

He says they have visited these players to ascertain the level of difficulties they are in and applications were done based on that.
