While hundreds of people are enjoying the Fiji Day celebrations, 18-year-old Sireli Sokiveta is marking the occasion by working hard and earning an honest living to support his parents.
As many take part in parades and festivities today, the Pacific Polytech plumbing student spends his free time working part-time, first as a car wash attendant and now as a sales assistant, balancing his studies with jobs that help support his parents and fund his education.
He says this is how he celebrates his Fiji Day — by working hard, earning honestly, and supporting his parents.
Sokiveta says it is his way of being thankful and contributing to his family.
He acknowledges the government and the Ministry of Education for providing opportunities through initiatives such as free education at Polytech institutions, which have allowed students like him to pursue vocational training and build a better future.
He says without this support, many young people like him would not be where they are today.
Sokiveta is encouraging youths to get employed, support their families, and make the most of every opportunity.
